The first rear wheel mini tubs have just arrived for Mustangs and Cougars 1964-1970. Wider than the originals by 2.250in they permit the use of desirable 17-20in modern wheels and tires 9-12in wide and are essential for Pro Touring use.
Developed by sheet metal specialists Grave Robbers in collaboration with Goodmark these new 18-gauge stampings provide rear wheel housing widths of 12.5in for ‘64-’66 Mustangs and Cougars and 14in for the popular ’67-’70 models.
The new wheel tubs in conjunction with the original rear leaf springs on ’64-’66 models permit the use of 9in wide wheels and 10in wide wheels on ’67-’70 models. But by up-grading to aftermarket four-link or Tri-link suspension systems, where all the components operate within the frame rails, wheel widths can increase to 10.5in and 12in respectively. Twelve-inch rims with 335/30 tires have a section width of just over 13in.
But perhaps the most important news regarding these rear wheel mini tubs is of their installation. Grave Robbers can complete the task, if required, in around two days. “When guys spend $3,000 or $4,000 on wheels and tires,” explains Jeff Kipfmuller, “it usually makes sense to spend a little more and gain the advantage of wider wheel tubs and upgraded suspension parts that permit wider rims to operate properly.”
Now available under part numbers 3020/670/64WL and 3020/670/64WR, these new rear wheel mini tubs for Mustangs cost $299.90 per set (installation extra).
