I would guess that what is really needed is some kind of a grade card for dealers. I have used the Internet in conjunction with visits to dealerships. There is a lot of ways of keeping the price down on a new car but If we had a real fair grading system like E bay has dealers would soon feel the pinch to treat each customer with respect and fair equal pricing. In my part of the world I could tell you of several dealerships that are right down sick. Others are really fair and straight forward.

If you follow a few rules you can cut down on the flim flam that we all hate so much.
1, do your home work and try to get an idea what your car is worth and sell it yourself.

2. use the Internet to contact the dealer of your choice and don't just use local dealers use at least 3 that are not all owned by one company.. That is a relatively a new deal. One company owns all the dealerships in an area so there really is no competition locally. You tell them what you will purchase there unite for and don't back down.

3. Let them know if the finance people start their usual crapola that you will walk. Spell it out what you will not put up with. If all else fails get a person to be your go between this can work well also. I buy for older people that are really scared of dealerships and I do it for free. Some day the dealers will find out that the government is not going to bail out a bunch of over aggressive dealerships and then they will have to sell all units of the same cost for the same price to all customers.

There seems to me to be a better atmosphere in Honda and Mitsubishi but that may be just this area of the world.

Finally I wish we could buy on An E bay type market place. And I wish there was a national grade card for every dealer in the U.S.A that would put a stop to the cheesy crapola that does go on in dealerships.

If you are a salesman and you work for these type of dealers you get what you deserve. Being honest is not a bad policy.
