Remember our 1993 Cobra that was stolen a few years back and then bought back as a salvage title by our friend Rufus Crow? Well the car is slowly being resurrected into an autocross/open track machine. We recently got the car back in running order and installed a set of RHS cylinder heads to replace the AFR 165’s that the thieves took off the motor. (Check the Project Cars section for those articles.) We’re also planning a full coil-over suspension install in the next couple months as well.
A few days ago we decided to upgrade the exhaust system on the car to make the Cobra’s bark as intimidating as its’ looks (the teal and multi-color primer scheme is growing on us.) We thought this would be a good opportunity to try Flowmaster’s new Super 44 mufflers. The muffler size is a compact 4″x9″, making it a real clean fit under smaller vehicles like the Fox platform Mustangs. Rumor is they sound incredible. While the mufflers are currently sold individually in a variety of popular inlet and outlet diameters and offsets, we asked Flowmaster to weld a set into their 5.0L Mustang “American Thunder” cat-back system. (Working for a magazine has its perks.) They hinted that maybe they’ll make a Super 44 catback system a catalog item, so listen to the sound below and let us know how you like it. i like that super 44 muffler. what do i need to have my truck sound like that. i want it loud without the cat converters
By Tom roisen. October 4th, 2008 at 7:14 pmI just put on the Flowmaster’s new Super 44 muffler on my 2004 gmc envoy. I could not be happier with it. I did not expect the sound that it produces. It was a little pricey for everything i did, but i am 100% pleased and reccommend the 44 to everyone!
