By firsthero. July 14th, 2009 at 4:29 amI think you nailed it ranchero67… take the personality of the machines out of the equation and NASCAR is up against Paris Hilton and the rest of what mass America demands in their celebrity worshipping. Never thought of that aspect but you are right, instead of focusing on the competition of man, machine, and teamwork… they got caught up in “stimulating” personalities.
That would be a great sidebar/segment in the CNBC special, but I doubt they’ll touch on it.
By Mikelonis. July 9th, 2009 at 9:22 amWith the “COT” and the new “Sprint Cup” engine the cars are basically all the same with the exception of the decals. The engines are expensive and all are built to the same NASCAR spec’s. NASCAR has wanted the focus on the drivers and personalities. The trouble is there are a lot of entertainment personalities out there. Many are more interesting and capture the public’s interest far more than NASCAR’S crowd. The new NASCAR does not work for many people looking for entertainment. It really does not work for the traditional “gearhead” fan anymore either.
By ranchero67. July 9th, 2009 at 4:57 amIt’s not NASCAR anymore its IROC for sissies. ya have to buy/use their Car of Tomorrow……yeah thanks for that…..It use to be an aggressive sport with modern day gladiators fighting it out…but now dont get into a fight or use harsh words or you will get your pee pee spanked to the tune of a hundred thousand dollars…. Dont take any prescribed drugs and drink an energy drink…. they might throw you out on your ear……. Bill France Sr built a great American sport out of some backwoods moonshiners competition and then his family destroyed it by regulating it into the dirt and trying to civilize it down to the level of a friendly cricket match. But I’m not bitter…. I’m not paying $100 a pop to go to their races either. I still like and respect (some of) the drivers but the sport has gone mamby pamby.
