We Went Undercover In Enemy Territory Searching For Fords

No matter where we go, we are always looking for cool Fords to bring to you, even if sometimes that means going into enemy territory. A few weeks ago we made the trip into the mountains to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to The Corvette Expo in hopes of catching a few Fords

We prowled the Hot Rods & Horsepower section of the show, all while trying to get tossed out by security if those Bow Tie boys sniffed us out. In the end, we spotted a handful of cool Fords to show you and managed to make it out in one piece. What follows are several of the diamonds we spotted in the Brand X rough.

When we saw George Lane’s gorgeous, red 1965 fastback featured near the center stage, we quickly knew there was hope! If you are a regular here on Ford Muscle, you will remember this car from a few months back in the story we published about it. As a quick reminder, this car features a Robert Yates Racing Trans Am series race engine, a full suspension and dozens of other unique modifications. This Bobby Alloway-built Mustang is one of the finest in the country and certainly had the Corvette guys taking notice…

Just across the way, we ran into another stunning red Mustang fastback. This one was the direct opposite from the highly modified 1965. It is an all-original 1969 Shelby GT350. This Candy Apple Red classic featured a long list of options added by Shelby making it a desirable example of the breed. Owned by Laura and Jack Dunsmore, this Shelby has won First place at the MCA Regional, National, and Grand National levels.

Kevin Pollard’s 1964 Ford Falcon offers a great mix of original with just a few modern touches, creating one slick ride. Painted in a classic shade of white and decked out with red trim and plenty of chrome, the car appears stock from 10 feet. A closer look reveals a set of more modern, but period-correct Torque Thrust-style wheels and some nice subtle chrome under the hood. The real highlight of this car, however, is the beautiful red interior. A set of low-back-but-modern bucket seats and a center console keep the driver comfortable and in place, while modernized wood grain steering wheel keeps the driver in control.

If we could have bestowed a Ford Best Of Show award, Terry Pollard’s stunning 1956 Ford F100 would have earned it. Painted in a gray and orange two-tone divided by a subtle blue stripe, this F100 is easy on the eyes, yet flashy enough to grab your attention from across the room. Sitting on a set of Chip Foose wheels, the truck also has just the right stance to it. Under the forward-tilt hood, Terry’s truck is all-Ford, gorgeously dressed out in vintage style Edelbrock attire. Meanwhile, beautifully covered bucket seats and a custom built full center console finish off this awesome build. Even the Corvette Expo couldn’t resist putting this beauty up in the front row.

This might be a pickup truck, but don’t even think about putting anything in that perfect bed on the left. The orange wood matches the orange on the truck to a T and just adds to the beauty of this truck. On the right, a modern, clean interior awaits the driver. The modern shifter is a subtle touch in a truck full of understated mods.

About the author

Jeff Southard

Growing up with a dad who loved Corvettes, I was destined to be a gearhead from day one. Beyond that, my dad owned an auto parts business for over 25 years. There, I learned the automotive basics as a child, then began my professional career working there after high school. From Corvettes and Superbirds to Hemis and Cobra Jets, my dad has owned a little of everything over the years, so I've had my chance to get some quality seat time behind the wheel of some rare, unique, and sometimes, just odd automobiles. I have owned my share of toys, including over 20 Mustangs. I guess to make a long story short, if you look up "car crazy" you will probably find my photo listed pretty close to it!
