An Interview With Original Bullitt Mustang Owner Sean Kiernan

As part of its celebration of the Mustang’s birthday last month, Ford arranged to have the original 1968 Mustang from the movie Bullitt displayed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. That lets you know just what an amazing piece of history this vehicle represents.

“To see the Bullitt under glass within steps of the Smithsonian museums, the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument is a fitting tribute to automobiles that have transcended utility to become truly iconic examples of America’s culture,” Ford Mustang chief engineer Carl Widmann said.

As we learned recently, the two Mustangs GTs used to film the movie were once thought lost forever. However, Sean Kiernan’s father had purchased one of these rare machines and tucked it away for years. As the movie’s 50th anniversary loomed, Sean worked with Ford to reveal the Bullitt Mustang to the world at the North American International Auto Show earlier this year.

While the star of one of the most iconic car chase scenes in cinema history was on display in the nation’s capitol, the crew at CJ Pony Parts arranged for the company’s Director of Video Content, Bill Tumas, to conduct an interview with Sean in front of the amazing display in D.C.

To celebrate the Mustang’s 54th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the Bullitt movie, the original 1968 Mustang GT from the film was on display on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. There, Bill Tumas of CJ Pony Parts interviewed its owner, Sean Kiernan. (Photo Credit: Ford Motor Company)

“The only way to describe Sean is a true-to-himself, down-to-earth guy who is a true Mustang enthusiast like the rest of us,” said the company. “The story of how much this car means to him and his family really makes us believe that this iconic, priceless vehicle could not be in any better hands.”

The CJPP team even reached out to us for a question to ask him, to which we contributed: ‘Has he ever taken the car or would like to take the car through the actual route of the movie chase scene?’

“Yes, I would. I am wanting to. I hope that happens this year, and I will be going at probably a tenth of the speed,” Sean replied.

Be sure to check out the full video above, and kudos to the CJPP crew for capturing the interview in front of this amazing display.
