Thanks for all the replies, guys! There is a pretty good scratch on the bottom of the CD, I believe this is causing my problem.

I tried car wax, didn't touch the scratch.

Tried Pledge, didn't help.

Tried toothpaste on an old CD and it scratched the heck out of it. Even with extra light rubbing with a soft cloth and water a good amount of scratching was evident.

I'll try a CD kit and see how it does.
