disappointed...need advice

Hi all, i'm new to the forum and i have a 65 fastback that i use primarily for open track/drivers school road course events. I had the car dynoed today and things didn't work out so great. For one, halfway through the second pull the water pump toasted itself. I was also a little disappointed in the first run. It pulled a shade under 290 hp and the same torque at the wheels. The thing is, peak hp was at about 5500 rpm. For my combination this power seems low as does the rpm. Also, i'm running a wilwood disc brake setup with dual master cylinders that uses 2 lb residual pressure valves on the brakes. I think this might be part of my low rear wheel numbers but the rpm is really puzzling me.
311 cu in
edelbrock performer aluminum heads with 1.9 intake 1.6 exhaust
about 9.8 compression
Victor jr manifold
650cfm mighty demon
isky solid lifter 240 duration at .050 with .512 lift
tri y headers with original shelby style glasspack side exit exhaust
canton oil pan and windage tray
full msd ignition

i feel like i should be getting peak power at more like 6500+ rpm rather than 5500 given my cam and manifold. The only thing i can think of is maybe the exhaust is choking it up...
