The Cragars...They are Chrome over aluminum (on the spoke section) and Chrome over steel on the rims. Aluminum doesn't like to be a base for Chroming, in the deeper recesses of the spokes, sometimes QC is a bit defiecent. So you need to be religious about cleaning, polishing those areas. Same with Chromed steel, it will tend to rust over time, popping the neighbors dog with a BB or pellet gun, when/if he "lifts a leg" near your wheels is par for the course.
The polished aluminum wheels tend to corrode over time, so they have their faults too. If you let road grime, salt or brake dust build up on them...they start turning from shiney to that dull grey, with pits and blisters...there aren't any custome wheels that need 0% (zero) maintenance, at least none that I know of. The trick is to know what to look for and keep on top of it from the start. They all have this "new" coating, micro something???, supposed to impregnate the pores of the metal and prevent corrosion and rust from getting started. It's better than the clear coating they used to use...but I'm still skeptical.
personally, I usually sell off my Cragars after 3 - 4 years and buy a new set. The person I sell them to gets a good deal and I get a new set of wheels...everybody is happy!
