the pin does intersect the oil ring land/grove,at least it did on my kb pistons.However there is a oil ring rail that bridges the spot were the pin intesects. Also there is a locator pin in the ring grove that keeps the rail from moving around the piston. I don't know but i think there is more than one way to stroke a 302 to get it to a 347.Meaning different rod lenghts which makes for a different pin highth.
