How about who we are and what Fairlane we have?
My name is Bill and I don't have a Fairlane any more.
The first new car I ever bought was a '66 Fairlane, and I miss it so much that I hang around here reading about what you guys have.
When the 66's first came out, I knew I had to have one, so I ordered one from Courtesy Ford in Chicago. The GT's were cool, but I wanted a bench seat and lower insurance rates, so here's what I ordered;
'66 Fairlane 500, 2 door hardtop, Vintage Burgundy/black interior, 390, 4V, 389 EquaLok, HD battery, AM radio & white walls. It had the dog dish hubcaps, no P/S and no P/B.
This car was my daily driver for over five years. In that time I added the following mods;
Hurst shifter, 3800lb. clutch, Holley 780 4-shooter, Engle solid lifter cam 288 degree/.500" lift, 427 valve springs, M/T valve covers, Cherry Bomb glass packs with turn-downs & cut-outs, Sun Tach, new springs all around to jack the car up, 14" Ansen Sprints up front and 15" American DragMasters with L 70 Inglewoods in the back...puls a Motorola 'Vibra-Sonic'!
This car went through a lot while I owned it, as I was always changing things and machining or adding different parts and pieces. I drove it to Aspen Colorado and got a drag racing ticket out there, and took it on my honeymoon to Florida. This car was part of me.
I used to hang-out and street race out of Skip's Drive-In on North Ave. just West of Chicago...a famous place. We'd block traffic and race out of there Eastbound. The car held it's own against GTO's and other muscle cars, but without traction bars would wheel-hop like crazy. Because of that, I'd prefer to go from a roll.
I sold the car to some kid in Champaign, Illinois who blew the engine and put a 351 in it. It passed hands and Lord knows where it is today...if it still exists. Maybe one of you guys own it. Some day I'll get another one.
