Nascar cheaters....

before you get too deep into thinking that an ernie elliot engine made more hp than anyone else did, forget it. the car the bill ran to a fastest qualifying record of just under 214 at taladega motor speedway, and just over 212 at daytona, was actually a 15/16ths scale tbird. the melling team did the same thing that smokey yunick did in 1966. the reason they got away with it and yunick didnt is because smokey was known for stretching the rule book past the breaking point, and the elliots were not. that is the unwritten rule in racing, and yes i know as i was a crew cheif many years ago, is that if it isnt in the rule book then it must be legal(from the racers point of view). if you look at the same rule book from the tech inspectors point of view, then if it isnt in the rule book, it isnt legal. racers by nature do everything they can to gain an advantage, ANY advantage, without being disqualified. as far as stock bodies go, that is nascar trying to equalize the competition. my problem is that nascar allows such large spoilers that the drivers dont really drive the cars as much anymore. i say get rid of the restrictor plates, and get rid of the spoilers(give the racers a small one of say 2" in height like was used in the 60's and 70's), and go back to stock bodies, and let them race. make the drivers drive again.
