Hi there,

I'm driving a '66 coupe with a 289 V8 and C4 tranny with power steering, no A/C
I was wondering what parts I need in order to swap my 289V8 with a 351W.

I figured out that i have to replace my distributor and may have to use swapheaders. Any other parts?

Starter? Intake? C4?

Thanks
</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>Few things to keep in mind. The C4 came in 2 bellhousing/flexplate sizes. I'm guessing yours is the 157 tooth, smaller size. A 351W will need a 164 tooth. You can swap the bellhousings on a C4 so that is not a big deal.
Your oil pan and intake manifold won't fit. Hood clearance is tight with taller dual plane intake or any single plane, plan for a hood scoop or drop base air cleaner if you want a Weiand Stealth or something similar.
Your 66 will have a passenger side rad hose, so you'll need to set your 351 up like a 69 351W (water pump, timing pointer, timing chain cover, 3 bolt crank pulleys) or get a rad with a driver's side hose.
Speaking of rads, the 20" 2 core that is in your car now likely won't be enough cooling for your 351W, especially if it is hopped up at all. I don't know whether a 24" fits in a 66, but check that out or a 3 core 20" at least. A/C adds to the cooling load too.
If you set your 351W up like a 69, your alternator and power steering brackets will work with the addition of a spacer. That spacer is a one year, hard to find item, but it has been re-popped. I got mine from Wild Horses bronco parts. Here is the link Spacer
If you re-use your 289 heads on top of watching for valve clearance and compression ratio, you'll have to have them drilled from 7/16" to 1/2" head bolts. No big deal any machine shop can do it.
For headers, there are swap headers made or you can run the 69 351W manifolds or 289 HiPo manifolds. I went with a repop set of the HiPos. But I have a bias against headers...
Good luck and post back with any questions. I just did this swap in a 68 Cougar, so its pretty fresh in my mind. All that torque from a 351 is going to move that 66 around real nice.
