Re: 408 Windsor street strip
Some people think you need a huge cam with the 408. Will they run better? Maybe, maybe not. It is all about the cam being "matched" to the motor. If you spent the money on a 408 kit, it is definately worth the money for a custom cam. Either Jay allen, Ed Curtis, Buddy Rawls. I have tried to deal with Jay, and very good cam guy, but he is very hard to deal with and recommends alot of VERY expensive options. I have heard nothing but great things about Buddy. I personally went with Ed at FTI. He is a bit on the slow side (he is very busy), but his cams are awesome. (I don't care what the guys on the SBFtech guys say). I told Ed I wanted a steet hyd cam. But told him I wanted it to run Very hard. (obviously). My cam is a VERY mild hyd roller with only around .580 lift and around 240-250 dur. For a 408, this is VERY mild. I thought i had got kind of screwed cause with this small cam, it will never hit my objective. 11's My 408 with the dual plane intake, 750 carb, 1 5/8 headers (which all the internet experts said would not work with a big 408), and this cam, in my stock mach 1 with pretty much stock suspension (caltracks) went 11.39 @ 119. So when I put this motor in the pro street car, I put a vic jr, 950hp, and 1 3/4 headers on. SO far, it went 11.08@120 in some very bad air. 10-1 comp, 3350lbs and street tires with the exhaust. (and cd player! HA) So I know it will run some 10's easy with some good air. I told Ed I wanted a solid 11sec street car, now it looks like I'll have a 10 sec street car! I love how this thing runs. I have beat the crap out of all of my buddies small block stroker cars (Chevy's AND Fords) that have these HUGE solid rollers and have valvetrain problems all the time. Again, I think it is worth the money to go custom. I would definatly recommend one of these 3 guys. I chose Ed and am VERY happy.
