I don't know how you would use an early switch, but a switch from a later model vehicle could work, especially if it has an inch or so of mounting threads. Again you would need to make a bracket.

Here is one from a mid 80's jeep which would work:



In the same manner, a Falcon/Mustang 2 wire door switch could work too, if the appropriate bracket was made. These are also normally closed.
