Maybe I am a bit fried from my 12 hour haul to get a '74 ranchero, but I just had to re-read your post 4 times.
I was thinking behind the seats inside...but I would say as far as a tank, I would consider checking maybe with a local speed shop that deals with alot of the oval/dirt track guys. I don't know much on your year but I would think you could put a fuel cell in there?
Otherwise, might have to get a custom tank made.
