I guess you meant to say and only draw 5.6A.

But if the unit draws a maximum of 6A @ 12V, that would mean a current limit of 4A @18V assuming 100% efficiency. So the RPM limit when using the "new digital box" would be down to 5700 rpm, assuming 100% efficiency.

Small DC-DC converters are typically 70-80% efficient.
