No. when you take the belt off those unit's that are going bad actually DO look like they are going to FRAG on you . but you're pretty safe from that. Just take it off then lay it aside put on the new one and toss the old one in the bin.

If it's totally come apart while on the car there'd be no tension on it after taking the belt off anyhow.
