as a 22 year old guy, I can say I've never had my "mommy and daddy" buy me a goddamned thing. every car I've owned have been paid for with my money. I've worked since I was legally able to, and any work I could do to my car, I did it. when I rebuilt the engine in my 89 mustang 5.0 the only help I got was with the machining of the block. I drive a 95 integra, because it's damned good on gas, better than any V8 could ever dream of. I despise the "ricer" culture of today. since I live in Fresno there's so many hmongs every other car on the road is some ****box honda with a fart can, rattle-can primer and/or different colored body panels, a grandfather clock-like tach duct taped to the dashboard, driven by some retard who couldn't even fathom what a 12 second car feels like so 16 seconds feels fast to him. other than my integra and my first car, a '71 datsun 240z, all of my cars have been american. 87 el camino, 88 tbird, 89 mustang, 90 taurus sho, and now my 65 mustang. the mustang i got for $1900 and it's a salvage title. any clean title mustang goes for $5k and up around here. I also own a Buell motorcycle, so obviously I love torque :p
as for the guy who refuses to understand text messaging...some people work, some people are in class, some people are just busy doin somethin else to be sitting there on the phone. so you send a text message, gets your point across in a few words and that's that. it's basically like PMs here, except with phones. you can hold a conversation over a long period of time without wasting minutes on your phone. I was talking with someone all day yesterday while i worked on the car. sure as hell couldn't have done anything with the car while holding the phone. also, you might have something that's just too short for a phone call "hey we're at so and so's place come chill with us" takes all of 5 seconds to write and send, doesn't waste any minutes, and if the person is busy they'll get it when they get to their phone.
we don't text message just to piss off old people :p

First, I'm sure not a guy as my username and real name should tip you to..

, and yeah, I'm kind of an old broad...57 going on 18. I appreciate your explanation of a reason for texting as my experience of being around it are folks sending jokes back and forth at the dinner table or during a conversation and simply being annoying. I use a prepaid cell which charges me to send and receive text messages, so I've told everyone not to send me any.
Surprisingly, we're alike in some ways. NOBODY ever bought me a car. I got darn near a fulltime job in HS, saved my pennies and bought my own. I've worked on cars since I was just a little twerp and learned 99% of my skills by doing or having an older person occasionally showing me a trick or two. I don't care about the ricer culture (Kids doing anything mechanical is cool) other than the fact that these kids are building cars that weren't manufactured by American owned car companies.
See, at least with me there aren't as many misconceptions as you might've thought.
