As I understand it, the 3-pinion has plenty of strength, except the individual pinion (planet gear) thrust washers fail under high horsepower thrust loads. This is apparently why the factory went to double thrusts in the C5. The needle bearing upgrade (under the pinion planet gears - not just the body) in the Broader 3-pinion allows it able to handle the higher HP. Have you talked to him about it?
