Re: '73 door hinge "S springs" needed

Ok, Friday I get the call and go the 22 miles each way to get the door checks. Couple surprises. One was the price. $48 for 2 pieces of twisted metal. That included 10 bucks for shipping! Rip off.

Next was the 22 mile drive home then trying to install. Can't figure it out. Hmmmph! I'm usually pretty good, but there seems no way they are going to fit. I get the hard copy of the ford parts books out and the correct check spring looks different. Uh-oh. I try the passenger door and find part of the old check down between the body and fender. Get it out and the part that is there is longer, wider and made of thicker stuff that the new spring in my hand.

Oh great. 22 miles to the dealer to get my money back as they won't even look up the part to get the correct one. Nice. With the 3 round trips to get these parts, I spent about 9 gallons of gas! At least it was in a classic convertible!
