Re: Cars in barns
While I respect that it's somebodies property and they can do whatever they want with it. I HATE to see history just rot away because someone just wants to have what amounts to a huge steel garden gnome sit in their field. There's a point in which they have to be honest with themselves, if its been sitting for the past 30+ years and it hasn't so much as moved an inch, chances are good they not going to ever restore it in their life, or even the next if they had one. If their kids hadn't already asked for it, chances are good that they don't want it. They could at least let car enthusiast, whether its restored or rodded, preserve the things that are unique to American history and culture.
There's a late 20's early 30's, I've been told it's either a dodge or chevy, sedan sitting in our field. Although it is covered and protected from the elements at least. I uncovered some of it and peeked a little underneath and the paint is still there. Unfortunately it was slightly chopped and used as a farm truck. I'd love for that to be my next project, but the skill level needed is currently to great for me. We also have 3 tractors still, an Allis Chalmers model M crawler, a ford 850 and an International Cub. All three are in sheds covered up but, they still need some maintenance, and until the early 90's my dad's uncle regularly started and maintained them all. Now he's been dead since 2004 and my dad wont bring them out to service them(I don't know how to drive a tractor). I hate history just wasting away.
