The Shelbys are about performance. Problem is it isn't in the same way anymore. The GT500 cars are SVT cars in which they are differentiated by what FRPP parts they have. As for the GT, that's just a joke. One can buy a run-of-the-mill GT, the FRPP Power Pack, FRPP Handling Pack, Hurst Shifter, and Shelby stripe kit and STILL have a home made Shelby GT for much less. What's worse is that's all the Shelby GT is. So, Shebly is about performance, it's just they got lazy.
