ill throw my very limited experience with using a tunnel ram in here..
a buddy of mine acquired a 65 studebaker with a built 283 in it about 7 years ago.
this thing had a weiand tunnel ram with a pair a 390's holley's on it,
cam was unknown,
and it had a 4-speed trans.
this wee 283 was quick,and would rev really fast,
did not loose low end torque and would light the 295/15 street tyres up in the first three gears.
imo,a well setup combo running a ram and a couple of carbs will perform well off idle up to around 7000 like this car did,and for around 6 months we thrashed it often without any problems-
too bad it was the wrong brand and had to go,or it would probably be sitting in my garage today..
