I have a black/black 65 fastback and drag raced it for several years. All the mechanical stuff is in great shape. My local strip shut down so I decided to start a freshen up job on it. I found a lot more problems than I expected so its now about 2 years and counting. At one point I just walked away from it for a while and worked on another project because I was so burned out on sheet metal work.
Well anyway, the sheetmetal part of this is coming to an end and I'm looking forward to the finish. I've looked at hundreds of photo's of mustang paint jobs and although they are fine I want to do something tasteful and nice but unique this time instead of the 2 skunk stripes and side stripes that so many cars have. That is a nice look and very traditional but I just want to do something else. I could just repaint it black but there are probably a few hundred of those around.
I have only seen a couple of other schemes like what I'm considering and nothing exactly like what I am thinking.
one option:
cap the top in silver metallic down to the side/corner body lines and do the front, back and sides in black. run a charcoal metallic seam about 1/4 or 1/2 inch wide between the 2 colors for transition. for the ends of the silver metallic I was considering holding the line back about 3 or 4 inches from the front edge of the hood for the cut across. I'll have to experiment with how to transition the silver metallic across the back of the deck lid. one way is to take the charcoal seam down the corner caps to a point and round it back up and across the deck lid to finish off. other way is to just come down to where it would need to curve and then curve across the deck lid at the line where it starts to bend down.
second option:
similar to 1 above except silver metallic on top/black sides and split the top panel with black down the middle top of the car. this is similar(somewhat) to a Foose design for a 2010 mustang but not exactly the same.
Here is the Foose design which I really like a lot(who wouldn't):
third option:
basically paint the car black high gloss and spray shelby stripes in black wrinkle paint. It would be different but more subtle than the first 2 options.
If anybody has done their paint jobs in some other creative ways it would be nice to see a photo or 2.
