You just splice into the power wire(s) going to the ignition coil(s).

The unit has a diode inside of it that isolates the 18 volts to your ignition coils.

CD boxes do not gain anything, as they have a equal device built in... (they can run as low as 9 volts, to up to 24 volts, with equal performance... Says enough...)
The oem's used resistors to prevent from burning up points and coils.

Keep in mind that the Mini-VIP is NOT a cd box.
