flywheels and balance

Is it a bad idea to get a flywheel from a 5.0 mustang and have it rebalanced for a 289? I have a mild 289 currently with a C4. I have a 5 speed laying around and would like to install it. I already have a clutch for the 5.0 motor with barely any use on it. older flywheels seem to be pretty expensive used, but newer ones are readily available and i wouldnt have to buy a clutch so that would save me money too. Im just wondering if its a good idea. any suggestions? know of anyone in the bay area that can rebalance and do a good job the first time around?

no its not a bad idea at all. You just need to make sure the shop doing the balancing can actually modify it (i.e. remvoe weight) down to 28oz.

The best thing to do is to take your automatic flexplate to the balance shop along with your new flywheel, and tell them to match balance the flywheel to the flexplate.
