My Ford has a 250cid 6 cyl (stock) with a 22 gallon fuel tank which I filled up 3 times this week and travelled only 342 miles.
There are no apparent leaks, what else could cause the excess fuel burning/loss?

Check the spark plugs and or spark? have someone rev the engine and see if the exaughst is smelling like fuel, friend of mine had a similar prob with his 289, and he had bad plugs and something else with the distributor
Sounds like you need to basically tune the car up and check the carb out. Probably just get it rebuilt. Check your timing your plugs your points....Id just check everything out and make sure everything checked out fine. Eliminate all the small stuff first. Good Luck...Ryan

Well a rich mixture means either 1 not enough air is getting into the chambers or 2. your getting to much fuel into you combustion chamber in either case this may affect mileage just my thought.

That kind of fuel use couldnt be going through the motor I dont think without your plugs being buggered real quick.
You would see fuel vapour from the rear of the car like fuel was being bailed out with a bucket.
When the motors cold. start and run it for a minute or so and give it a few revs.
Shut it down and pull a plug or two.
They should be soaked in fuel if the fuel is getting as far as the motor.
Has you oil diluted at all? Your cyls should be washing down with a lot of unburnt fuel for 5mi/gal in a 250cui motor.
Check under the car for a cracked fuel line between tank and carb or a fuel leak at the pump. If it looks real pink around the pump on the alloy thats a sign of a fuel leak.
It really sounds like you are dumping it externally to me. I cant see 66 gals going anywhere internally (in 350mi) without the motor being fouled within a few minutes of idling.
