mild 460 build up.

HI GUYS
OK Due to $$$ shortage I've decided to just have a reg. valve job done. Grind out ext. bump (D3ov heads). pop up pistons. (std bore). I would like to have a lumpy idle or at least a noticable lope. which would be the better cam. for mostly street use. On 87 or 91 oct.

Comp 268h (this one is purity straght no lift differance between in. and ext.)
opp. range 1500 -5500
duration 218 @.050
lift .494

comp 255deh
opp. range 1200 - 5500
duration 203 in - 216 ext
lift .469 in - .459 ext

or
comp 265deh
opp. range 1500 - 5750
duration 211 in - 223 ext.
lift .484 in - .510 ext
Thanks all
Tim

Comp 268 is the best of the 3. Not really lumpy, still lots of low end torque. Its whats in my 460, and Im very happy with it.

I run smallest CC extreme 4x4 grind in my 4800 lb 1976 Elite with 2.75 gears. It's 210/218 duration and around .515 lift. Good idle with no hint of cam but runs up strong. Seems to be really happy between 2000 and 4000 rpm. Edelbrock performer intake, 780VS Holley, and PI exhaust manifolds.
If you want lope, go with the next step bigger Extreme Energy grind. With better compression than me and headers, you'll have a slightly chunky idle and it will have plenty of nuts. Good luck.

I'm running a 71 block,D3 heads mild ex porting/218/223@.050 /.530 lift cam/crane gold roller rockers/TRW forged pop ups (10.5 to 1)750 Holly vac secondary on top of a steath intake.I err on the small side with the cam but this thing has gobs of torque and desent HP.Only problem is I HAVE NO TRACTION!
BTW she runs good on 93 pump gas but really runs good with 10 gals of 110 added in.

That 275DEH does look desirable! That may be just the ticket in my Model A.
Is it the opinion of most that home-ported D3 heads will achieve 450 hp or so, or should you try to use/port a set of E7TE heads? Should headers with 1 3/4 primaries be sufficient with that cam and power level?

HI DARRELL AND TOM
I looked at the 268 but wanted some noise at idle. It didn't have any change in lift or duration of the int. and ext. with the restrection of the ext. I think I would benifit form more ext. lift than int.

I do like the 275 but though it might be to much. (But I do like lump.)If you dont think the lift is to high at .541 for my setup (mostly street). I'd go with it. (Just noticed in motor book stock lift is .437 int. and .481 ext.) I do have a tendencey to be skitish on going to big. and it doesn't come in untill 2000rpm to 6000rpm. is that high for streetable?
Tim
