What material can be used....

I am thinking about building an own intake for a V8 engine.
I see the most intakes are made from aluminium and that is not so easy to weld for me. (not have the right welder)

What abot the glas-fiber material they make hoods and scoops?
Is this material good for making an intake ?

I don't think the glass fiber would hold up to the punishment an intake takes.. as well as you couldn't get it smooth enouff inside to make good flow.. there is alot of heat, vibration and the bolts are tourqed down and I think the glass would brake. If you want to make one you could most likely use light weight (gage) steel.

Unless you are an EXPERT mold maker, don't even try to make your own intake using anything other than sheetmetal. Even then unless you are an expert fabricator it's not going to be very good, and most likely will leak.

What's wrong with the dozens of aftermarket intakes available? Is your engine a rare one that doesn't have aftermarket support?

Intake manifolds have very precise runner volumes and cross sectional areas that are tuned for the motor.

another problem would be getting a dead flat mating surface. Even the new mod motors which use a plastic composite intake have metal reinforcements in certain high-load areas. And even then they are prone to cracking, leaking.

Sheet metal is basically the way to go if you are wanting to fab your own intake.

Oh , I am just thinking about but have no plans to build an own intake .

A Friend want to put an paxton charger on a 302 or so and he showed me how it has to look , and I thought a bit on building an other , better looking intake . (only to have something special.

I like the design of the actual corvette motors (With throttlebody infront)
The hole intake is looking somthing very sportive to me.

But donīt forget , I like only the design !!
