390 FE Vibration
hello,
i've got a 1966 Thunderbird with the 390 FE engine and c6 dual range transmission. i had the engine completely overhauled a while back and have had a serious vibration at approx. 2000 rpm and above ever since. this vibration occurs if the car is in neutral/park or drive, which leads me to believe that the problem is somewhere in the transmission and forward. the car did not run prior to the engine being overhauled therefore, i don't know if the problem existed prior to the overhaul. The shop that rebuilt the engine is quite reputable/knowledgeable however, they can't figure this one out. They've removed the engine from the car twice to weigh the conrods and pistons and to balance the crankshaft/flexplate/converter. They've also, run the engine with all of the accessories (steering pump, alternator, etc) disconnected. It still vibrates. i'm at a complete loss with this thing and am desparately seeking information regarding possible causes. The transmission is a rebuilt (by another shop prior to my purchasing the car) and seems to work well. i've heard though, that there are many flexplates that will bolt on to the 390 but won't work due to the position and size of the balance weight. could this be causing the problem?? could the problem be caused by something else in the transmission or am i looking in the wrong place??
