Best performance Street/Strip Muffler for 3 inch Exhaust.

Looking for Something that will not make the cops pull me over every two blocks. The Exhaust has to stop at the rear axle with turn downs. Going with a 3inch exhaust for my 480hp 351C.

I have flowmasters and I have been pulled over before. The cop heard me from 4 blocks away. They are 3" dumping before the axle. They really rattle the car, but I don't have any interier, either. They are too loud for me and they slow the car down about 1 tenth in the 1/4 verses open headers. I would prefer something different.I just haven't decided what I want.

Mine sounded great with 3" Terminators and 3" "H" pipe. Ran 10s without being too loud and I could still hear my stereo with the dumps before the rear end. It then got real quiet when put 1 7/8"-2" step headers on with 3 1/2" collectors and I went with 3 1/2" H-pipe and 3 1/2" Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers with dumps before the rear end. Tuff to describe but fender shacking roller cam with high compression yet quiet exhaust from my old 351W.

Have you thought about going with removable tailpipes? They take that 'car shaking' resonant vibration pretty much completely out of an exhaust system.

Using collector rings hooked to good reducers and mandrel bent tailpipes works really well... and it only takes a few minutes to remove the tailpipes if you want to hear it 'boom'.

The removable tailpipes also make it easier to remove the complete exhaust system, in case you ever want to run open headers.

It just makes for an exhaust system that easily adjusts to 'fit your mood'.

Good Luck!

I am thinking of going with the Dynomax ultra Flow mufflers. Anyone have any luck with these.

Weld a set of those 3-bolt collector rings to the outlets of your 3" mufflers... Then buy a set of Flowmaster $99/pair mandrel bent 2.5" tailpipes and connect them to the mufflers with a set of ordinary header reducers.

This will allow each tailpipe to be removed by taking three bolts loose. Turnouts or turndowns can also be fabricated to fit in place of the tailpipes. (if you desire)

This also makes removal of the entire exhaust system easy. Once the tailpipes are taken off, the rest of the exhaust can easily be unbolted from the headers to run completely open exhaust.

Good Luck!

Okay, I know this is heresy on this board, but check out Midas' M909 muffler. Why? This is the exact muffler Rhino Performance Muffler was selling as their "Big Block" muffler. They have been swallowed up by a company called IPC Huth, and seem to be getting out of being direct retailers, and selling their products through big muffler chains like Midas, etc. I will be getting the M909s on my car soon because I simply love the sound. A serious rumble at idle and they're loud, but not raspy, at full throttle. Really cool. I heard them on a bone stock 289 Fairlane wagon once and they knocked me out. Another note: maybe you could experiment with pointing the tips at one another under the car, to cancel out a bit of noise and a considerable amount of resonance. If you drive your car at all on the street, tips pointing directly into the ground in front of the axle can create some miserable vibrations and noise.
