PS Bracket for Headers

Had to install this bracket so the PS slave cylinder would clear my headers. It's been on for 4 months now and come loose twice. Obviously a lot of torque there from the slave cylinder. Have any of you had success tack welding the bracket to the frame? If there's that much stress there, could I cause damage to the frame or would the bracket bend/break first?

With my Hedman bracket, the slot was almost the same size as the nut, so I used a really big washer, then a medium size, then a lock washer, and just tightened it down really tight. Hasn't come loose since.

PS Bracket for Headers

I have seen a couple guys weld them to the frame, becouse the two bolts straight up tore right out of the frame.... This has happened to at least three people I know with older fords... The nuts in the frame tore right out of the frame rail.... But they welded them on with no problems... I would probably weld it up before this happens, becouse it bent the p/s ram also when it broke.....

Save yourself and your car from the possibility of damage IF the bolts rip out of the frame, weld the bracket to the frame.

The bolts on "project sleeper" loosen up too and I welded the bracket to the frame, now no more problems...... it's a piece of mind thing.

Mine is welded. Partaly because is messed up one of the welded in nuts (inside the frame), and had to cut the bolt off. Reminds me I still have to weld the one on my dads stang.

Limped home last night and didn't have a chance to really inspect it as we had t-storms coming through. Crawled under this morning and it looks like the bolts tore through the frame. Time to go visit my friendly welder, shell out some cash and have it done right. Thanks for all the replies.

Sounds like ripping the nuts out happens a lot. Happened to me too. I said screw it and I converted to manual steering. Problem solved.

Here's something related. Say you got the bracket welded to the frame. What's the chance of the bracket breaking where the PS cylinder bolts to the part that is welded to the frame?

I have the bracket made by hedman hedders on my granada. I extends the PS cyl. down by about 2-3" to clear the headers. The piece of metal that extends down from the bracket that bolts to the frame is welded to it, what's the chance of it breaking off there? I guess there's no way of preventing it from happening if it did break there. You would just hope that the guy/gal that welded that part of the bracket was having a good day when they did it.

Mine came loose also. I used the flowtech. The problem with all of the brackets ive seen is they are made out of angle iron. This is a problem because they never fit totally flush. So no matter how tight they really are they is room for play. I finally welded mine also after fighting with it. Now i just run manual steering and ive never been happier. Good luck.
