RPM max for two-bolt 351W?

Hi:

I have an old '88 Bronco with a solid-running, two-bolt 351W. I'm thinking about pulling the engine and dropping it into something fairly light (i.e., a Maverick or Pinto) to run as a track-only bracket car.

I'm curious: What are the naturally-aspirated high-rpm limitations of such a block, vs. a four-bolt of the same displacement? Any other thoughts on such a project?

Thanks in advance....

Gary

Look at the other post for 393-408-rpm limits, and draw your own conclusions.
Every engine on there is a 2 bolt main setup. (even mine).
Don't want to sound like a ****, but just don't feel like re-typing the whole explanation/scenario. Have fun...

First of all, the only way you will get a 4 bolt main is from SVO, since Ford never made one in a production car.

As for the rpm it will live to, a buddy had a truck rodded 351W that he turned 7000 rpm wihtout any problems. And almost all of the big strokers are all based on the W block, and have 2 bolt mains and get twsted even tighter than that.

But, if the heads/cam/intake system wont support 6000 rpm, there is no reason to turn it that tight.

Milidon makes a 4 bolt conversation for about $250, plus the machining. Chevy is the one with the bottom end problems. That's why they use 4 bolt mains so much. Compare a 351W cap along side a 2 bolt 350 Chevy. Mucho Diff. Ford has never had the bottom end problems Chevy has had. 351W and 429/460 blocks are stronger then they look. Use a good set on main studs. The bolts are the bigger problem.
