Ever notice?????

Ever notice that when you watch Cops on t.v. you see the car that is going around in circles, backwards, without a driver? What's with that? I'TS ALWAYS A FORD!!! Is there some kind of parking problem in the Ford transmission? Always a 70's, always a ford, always breaks my heart...

Ever notice that in order to be a criminal on Cops you cant have an actual t-shirt, though an undershirt is often the only exception.

Also the women who couldnt wait to hit the car in the rear but where the door is open which im sure enough caused a whole lot of damage vrs a bent bumber or such. The reason that you see a lot of Fords backing up without drivers is because Ford automatic transmission shifters, once worn, will easily drop from Park into Reverse. I know this because the linkage on my 69 vert was as loose as a goose when I bought the car. Driving away from the PO's house I had a problem with the windshield wipers and pulled onto a side street from a busy boulevard to fix it. Since the car didn't have a parking brake at the time I put it in Park with the engine running. I opened the door and got both feet on the ground and the stupid thing dropped into Reverse and started backing out onto the boulevard. I jumped back into the car and jammed it into Drive and got back off the street. That was almost the shortest ownership of a car in history. The lady had handed me her keys about five minutes earlier. Needless to say my first project was to replace the bushings in the shifter.

Ragtop nailed it. The cheap ass nylon bushings on the auto shifter wear and the thing will drop into reverse. My cement mixer got crushed a bit between my brother's 69 Mustang and his fence. Of course the Mustang was bent a bit too, but it wasn't mine, dammit.
When I bought my POS 65 Fastback the shifter was so sloppy I could move the shifter 4 or 5" laterally.
