Ok I pulled it out - what does it all mean?

So I have pulled my first engine out of a car - yay. Did not drop it on the fender or forget to disconnect anything. So far so good.

Looks like the block came out of a 71 Torino if I am reading the codes correctly. On the block back by the starter: D1OE-6015-AA and a little below that 2015.

Intake manifold has C5AE-9425M

On the back of the block on the top are stamped the numbers 2H565319 (what do they mean?)

Where are the casting numbers for the heads?

Whole inside of the bell housing was coated with dirty oily goo (but the oil is not comin from anywhere obvious engine side but have not taken off the flywheel yet. (could the oil have been comin from the tranny side&gt.

With all that oil, I cannot imagine that the clutch is not all oiled too but what should a used up clutch look like? The friction pads on this one are all black and shiney.

Anyone had particularly good luck with any clutch that did not cost a million bucks?

Ok..well the intake and block #'s being diff means that its not a matched set..as in off diff cars. The head id #'s are located UNDERNEATH the head on the intake port. (couldn'a found a better place for it huh?) heh ..and here's a link to help you ID the stuff you find

A quick way to refrence what the heads 'may' be is by looking between the 1st and 2nd cylnders (looking from left to right)in between the set of valve springs.

Pull off the valve covers and look.
You will usually see a number on older Windsors.
it may say 64 65 66 etc etc... to about 78.
Not sure if the later heads do this.
Pretty much anything from 64-74 are small or decent chambers with moderate valves, 75-78 are large chambers with teeny valves(smogger heads).

This is very broad and basic way to see what heads you may have.
Its more of a quick refrence I use when I go yard hoping.
Lot easier to pull a valve cover than a whole head heh heh.

D10E-AA is a 70-74 302 block. I have some casting number's posted on my site and you don't have to pay to see 'em.

What would be the difference between the 302 block and the 289 block?

Better, worser, same-same?
