Oil Slinger on a 1993 5.0?

Hi, I'm rebuilding my 302 and have installed the timing chain. I can't find the oil slinger that would sit between the crankshaft gear and the H.balancer, which cause me to think that I didn't have one when I took it apart.(this engine has been rebuilt before)

I have two manuals one mentioned the oil Slinger (How to rebuild Small Block ford engines) and a manual that is for this years engine - which does not mention the oil slinger.

So the question is - does a 1993 5.0 mustang engine require an oil slinger?

Mark

P.S. does anyone know what that little circle on the crankshaft gear is for?

They stopped putting the slingers on sometime after they went to PCV systems.

So nope, it's not under the workbench somewhere...

Just to back up 65Falcon, dont worry about it. I have removed the oilslinger from my small blocks when they had them while doing a timing gear or cam change.
