"R" servo

Ive heard that the "H" servo is the one to get, but I've scored an "R" from the local scrap metal recycler. Is it any better than the "H"?

Don't know about it being better than an H, but I do enjoy the shift I get from my R servo. It is certainly better than the A model. Seems like the R servo is kinda common on the pan-fill C4.

I use the 'R' servo's quite often as the 'H' is hard to come by here..It will work well..

Ok thanks guys. I have been rounding up as many servos as I can find, I've scored about 30 of them, mostly "H"'s, but a few others as well. I was just curious if it was any better, the maverick turbo 302 is just about done, and the trans is ready to be overhauled. I'm just torn between the "H" and the "R"

"R" servo

"R" servo has less applied pressure but has smaller accumilator/release area to allow quicker 3rd gear shifts(quicker direct clutch lockup) which is the weak link on the C-4s. Rarely does 2nd gear ever go out(intermediate band burned up) but 3rd gear clutches always burn up(direct drum). I would use the "R" servo or if you're using a revers manual valve body then an "H" servo or aftermarket(based off the "H&quot will be in order. "R" servos are much harder to find than "H"s are. Much fewer "R"s were made and were used in the most heavy duty C-4s while "H"s were ised in the still heavy duty but lighter use situations or when factory ran out of "R"s the used "H"s as replacements. Under WOT at a heavy load the "R" realeased the band quicker and applied the direct clutches quicker causing less slippage during 2-3 shift making those C-4s live longer(351C/M/400) in those trucks, Broncos, and vans.

My PA had a "H" in it, it now has an "R". Can't seem to justify $125 for a PA one.

I love the trans, but I will never buy another from them. I'm probably going to a 'glide this winter because of their pride in workmanship of their older trannies. I've run this thing in the 8's with no problem. I've stepped it up & don't feel as though their trans will hold 1000 HP for long.
