289 hi po mexican main bearing caps 302 ford

Question: Are these caps worth the cost? Do they actually buff up the lower end as claimed over the stock caps?

See this ebay listing:

Not sure what the price is on the caps, but you have to figure other cost in replacing main caps. One, can you buy the block as cheap or with little cost over what you wuold pay for the caps? Two, how much in machine shop costs would it be to install the caps, plus the price of the caps?

The last time I had a block line honed, it was $125 and that was close to 10 years ago. So, add at least $150, plus the price of the main caps, plus what you could sell your block for and I bet you could buy a block with these caps already installed and not needing any spcial machine work.

I paid $250 for a standard bore Mexican 302 bare block.

Do the math.

I'd look for a Mex block before I'd spend a c note on some caps.

I do know that thoses caps are strong. You will break the bolts before the caps for sure. I want to get 50 bucks for my set of mexican caps with the broken block. Block need bellhousing bolts holes.

I wouldn't bother. The weakness isn't the caps, it's the webbing.

I'd recommend getting the whole block instead of just the caps.Overall it's a little beefier in all the right places than a regular production block, the caps just continue the program.
