aod in 79 capri carburated and 8.8 lincoln DB rear in capri

My project is a 1979 mercury capri. the engine and transmission found there way gacefully to the junkyard in favor of a 40,000 mile 5.0 ho and 4 sp aod from a 1989 lincoln lsc mrk 7. the plan was to fuel inject it, money became a problem so i went into the garage and grabed a eldelbrock performer intanke and 600 cfm carb. now to the problem, the engine runs like a top, but the tranny is another subject. i took it for a test drive, lyed into the throttle and the 16" ponies melted but the damn thing stayed in 1st gear. knowing the tranny shifted firm and through all the gears in the wrecked donar car i started to scrach my head. reading through the many publications i found that what i thought was a passing gear cable is infact a throttle vavle cable, that determines shift point and tranny line psi. it was still hooked up the the original f.i. bracket so i cut and ground the bracket to fit the carb and set the T.V. so that at no throttle there was no play in t.v. and at w.o.t. the t.v. was at full extend. i am still using the stock t.v. i ordered an aftermarket lokar t.v. and ran it as far away form the exhaust as possible but it burned the plastic shething and redered it unusable ($112) down the drain. what i am asking is if anybody as done this say or simular swap and what it took to get the dang thing to shift right. also will s stock lincoln 8.8 w/disc brakes fit right into the place of my 7.5 pig of a diff? thanks for any feed back and i am sorry for the long post. email me with any long explinations at bigikediesel@aol.com

thanks

With the AOD you will need a few things.
A proper bracket and cable for the tranny will be needed so it functions correctly.

I think junkyard wise a CFI5.0 AOD bracket and cable should work.
The TV cable determines line pressure and shift points in the AOD, if this is not set correctly you WILL burn up the tranny.
STOP DRIVING THE CAR NOW if you dont have a proper TV cable setup.

Also with the AOD you should have it at the very least hard wired to operate the lock-up clutch in the torq converter with a switch.
I forget if in the AOD without it wired up if it will shift into 4th, I think if it does though without the lockup converter you will burn out the clutch packs.
Its been a while since I messed with a AOD.

As for the Linc 8.8, is this is the one out of the LSC? If it is, it is about 1.5 inches wider than other fox chassis cars.
Not to mention I THINK the disc brakes kick out the rims another .5 inch on either side.
You may have serious tire rub issues.
Also I want to say its not a true bolt on.. why I dunno I have this feeling its not the same unequal 4 link rear suspension setup as other Fox Chassis cars.
Or maybe Im thinking of the airbags.
Does the LSC have a panhard bar instead of two upper conrol arms?

I know it has the lowers.
You can use the spindles and brakes out of the LSC, grab all the brake goodies for sure.
But the rear may be a bit tricky to install and too wide to work effectively.

AOD's dont use an electric torque converter clutch. They are mechanically locked, that's the purpose of the 2 input shafts.

when the tranny didnt shift i stopped read and called everyone i could to find out why since then the project has stayed in the drive way only moved for the ocational driveway tire meltdown. as for the cable, i found a way to cut and grind the thing to fit the carb stud and eclip the linkage with more grinding to fit the carb arm. there are really no electronic wires out of tranny. if this keeps up i my switch to c4 or 5 speed. what a pain in the but!
