Gasoline In Oil???

Hi, A couple weeks ago I was having a problem with low oil pressure at idle. I was using 10/30 oil and noticed that when I was idling that the lifters were rattling, And I was only getting about 8 psi of oil pressure. I imediately changed to 20/50 and that solved the problem but was more of a cheap cover up rather than a remedy. I than took my car to my mechanic and he said that there was gas in the oil because the car was running way to rich, and that the timing was way off. My question is is that possible to cause low oil pressure.
Thanks in advance.

If there was enough gas in there to thin out the oil, it could be a cause. I would also check the rubber diaphram on the fuel pump. If the diaphram fails, it can leak gas directly into the oil pan...

Could also be blow-by caused by worn out rings. You would also have low vacuum if it was this. If you are unsure try a compression test.

My dad had a 79' Jeep Wagoneer with the 360 engine. It's mechanical fuel pump failed somehow, and pumped the crankcase full of gasoline.

Good Luck!

I think if you were running that rich the car wouldn't idle or run right. You robably have a leaky fuel pump.

Gasoline In Oil???

My Edelbrock fuel pump only has approx 500 miles on it. It does not appear to be leaking. When I went and picked up my car today my mechanic had saved a little cup of my 20/50 oil, It was as thin as water and completley stunk like gasoline. I did have a compression test done as well and I was between 145 and 150 on all cylinders.

BLACK65....

I have had THREE EDELBROCK, $150.00 water pumps on my Cobra since I built the 408W....so don't rule out a bad fuel pump from the factory!!!!

Call the supplier and have it replaced and I'll bet your problem goes bye-bye??!!

You could also just buy a stock one and try that first.....won't take long and they are pretty cheap.

Good Luck,
Cobrajack

Thanks everyone who replied to my post. I am going to look into this feul pump situation and give edelbrock a call in regards to exchanging it.
