harmonic balancer

how do i know which harmonic balancer to buy for a 289 hotrod street motor

get the balancer for a 289 not the later 302.you can get a nice fluid damper, for best performance. they are not cheap.A stock one cost about 100.00

My machine shop recommended the following companies for balancers for Ford SB. Wondering if anyone has used either of these companies balancers.

He said that both make "Street Performance" balancers that would be perfect for 375-400hp Ford Smallblocks and cost between $75-$150. He said the Fluiddampers are nice & but too expensive & overkill for most applications.

I've had two balancers (one on the 94 cobra and one on the 68 289) with the elastomer/rubber come apart. I replaced the 94s with a Romac Balancer from Houston Performance for about $240.
