65 mustang rear end in 67 fastback

if i get a 9 inch from a 65 would it fit a 67 I have a 9 inch but 28 spline where this one be would be 31 spline with locker.i was thinking if the 65 had same with mounting i could get a little bit better offset in the rims i'm buying with the narrower rear. Plus dont know if the 28 spline will handle power level of 408 stroker hoping to have done in next couple of months

Yes you should gain an inch on each side with this swap(from drum to fenderlip). The 31 spline detroit locker would be much stronger than a plain jane 28 spline 9 inch so ya go for it.
