Question about sunroof; early '80s vs early '90s.

I have a '79 Pace Car with a sunroof. I recently installed a mint headliner I got out of a '92 GT with a sunroof. On my original headliner there were cutouts to allow my sun shade to be placed under the sunroof but the later model headliner doesn't have these. Is there a different system for securing the shade in later years? If so what is it? If I can't rig something up the headliner will have to come back out so I can modify it. I hate to do that because I've already glued the weather strip in place. (I didn't notice the lack of the holes bafore I installed it)
