351c rebuild, whats it gonna cost me?

I am thinking of getting my 351c rebuilt, possibly by myself, or having a shop do it. What is the range that I should expect for the parts to run? I'm not building a killer engine or anything like that, and I dont expect it to see over 6500 rpm in the near future. What should I go with, and how big is it going to hit my wallet? I have a block, rods, and crank, probably will need new pistons cause the block needs bored. How much over would a stroker kit cost, than just a plain rebuild? Im lookin for options right now, as a poor college kid who is tired of a leaky cleveland with plenty of blow-by.

Well, I can give you an estimate, but it all depends what you are going to do with it. Are you changing Cam, heads, intake etc.. /w all stock components, Heads reconditioned will be about $200, boring charge about 150-200 ish, Bearings (main & conrod) about 100. Pistons about 250-300. Gaskets 90. Rings 50. This is just ballpark..but close to acurate for a stock rebuilt.

To have shop do it figure on between $2,300.00 and 3,300.00. Obviously, the price can go way higher than that too ... mine cost me $$8,200.00 and I assembled the thing myself

If you do it (the assembly) 100% yourself chop maybe $800.00 to 1,000.00 off that.

Engine building can be a bit strange at times ... You can painstakingly cover every single detail, spend goobs of $$$ and end up with an engine that is less than you expceted ...

Other times you can cut corners and do things that seem crazy, slap parts together without as much care and thought as one would like and the damn thing will run til' the cows come home.

My point is simply that you can possibly cut a few corners on a simple get around town motor and most times be just fine ... Just use your common sense and follow directions ... everyting doesn't have to be "WaZoo" on a motor you are talking about.

BTW ... My $8,200.00 500 HP 351C is in deed running flawlessly. But I have a 350 SBC factory type build giving endless ration of $hit

That would be great, I would definately like a shop that has plenty of experience with 351c's and such, drop me an email or something: brian@forgottenfords.org. I have the whole top end allready, probably am going to change my valve springs/cam/lifters tho, since they are wimpy stock cam type things.

351c rebuild, whats it gonna cost me?

Brian, Im doing a rebuild on mine right now. I work at Blakes Automotive Performance in Redding CA. Blake has been building clevelands forever. WE could put together one hell of a motor at our shop. This is what mine looks like currently and im in parts and a little labor on a few things.

351C 30 over 357 Cu in
4V Closed Chamber heads-intakes filled and flowed- about 310 cfm at .55 lift
Crower Roller Cam- around 560 intake 570 exhaust
Speed pro pistons around 11 to 1
Torker intake with 850 holley
hooker super comps
Full MSD ignition
Im still debating to put in eagle rods probably will

We are thinking around 500 with this
Im pretty sure we will hit high 11's with the slicks on it

Bad Ass motor--Looking for 350 owners hehe

We could probably put one together like mine for about 3000 and it would be one hell of a motor- and I know it would stay together-none of Blakes motors have ever come apart
He built a 454 for a drag car years ago and its still running 10's with everything the same way he left it

Drop me an email if you want with what you have for parts and i could see if i get an estimate.

Brian,
I had a machine shop do mine and it was only about $1950 for the long block.
.030 bore, turned the crank, KB flat tops, cam, went thru the heads (valves, seats, machined) fixed a crack, balanced and all the other things you will need to get running.
The only thing I didn't like is the cam, but that's my fault, I told him I wanted a daily driver. So he put a mild RV cam, 'cause of the C6 and power brakes (vacuume).

It looks like you are wanting the build I got. I'll sell you my cam, and the Performer intake (4v). They are like new. I'm stepping up in cam and intake.
The cam and intake both nose off at about 5500 Rpm's. It's great build for a daily driver, and has plenty of torque at the low RPM's. It gets about 9-10 mpg. It's no dog, but I want more out of it.

Drop me a line if you want them, also the machine shop is here in San Diego, if that's not to far.
Broadway Auto Machine 619-697-4094. Bernie Griggs

Good luck!
