5 bolt bell housing revisited

I have a '63 Ranchero with a 260 and a T-10 sideloader transmission.
I want to put in a 289.
The 289 requires a 6 bolt bellhousing.
The 260 has a 5 bolt bellhousing.
I want to use my existing transmission.
I'm being told that my "narrow" pattern T-10 will NOT bolt to ANY 6 bolt bell housing.
Does anyone know if...
there such things as 6 bolt bells with "narrow" patterns?
I also have been told that a 6 bolt bellhousing with the "wide" pattern can be drilled and tapped for the "narrow" pattern.
I've also been told that the area where the top bolts would go is too thin on the 6 bolt bell and that dilling and tapping won't work.
I'm already pretty confused so..pile it on!!
Let me have your thoughts on this!!

From my understanding, the 65 Shelby's and Cobra's used the T10. Not sure what the Hipo's used in 65. Also, A lot of the earlier bellhousing had dual bolt patterns.

Alternativly, you could try to find an early 5 bolt 289 block which you could then fill with 302 goodies. The tipoff to spoting one in a boneyard is that they came with generators. If the suspect has an alternator as original equipment, its a 6 bolt. In parts books this is known as "change L-4."

Problem solved!!
Found an old Lakewood scattershield and block plate that has both patterns!
An easy solution and it only set me back a hundred bucks and another hundred to have it blasted and powdercoated!
I'm stoked.
Now it seems like a waste to put a stock 289 in front of it.
