C-4 storage and fluid

I recently installed a B & M shift kit in my 1966 C-4 tranny. I will not be installing it the car right away, should I store the tranny with fluid in it or dry?

This tranny is a recent rebuild and I was told by the guy I bought it from to use dexron fluid instead of ford 4 fluid. He said the new bands would work better with dexron. Is that correct?

thx, dave

You'll get a firmer shift with Type F. If the tranny isn't going to sit too long and if everything was lubricated during assembly, it shouldnt hurt it to sit a while with no fluid. But for safe measure, stick the yoke and converter in and fill 'er up.

I don't know about anybody else but I did the same thing. Shft kit in a rebuilt C-4 and it sat for a while (6 months) with no fluid in it. Keep it inside in a controlled environment. The only thing that appeared to happen to mine was the dipstick got light surface rust on it. It runs fine and has for over 3 years and roughly 4000 miles.

You don't need any fluid in it. Just don't leave it out in the weather.
When you start using it again, take it easy on it and drive easy for a few miles. Type F fluid only. The trans valve body and casing are designed for type F. Actually F is a better fluid then the dexron. I use only F in a AOD for 2 yrs now. Shifts better with it.
