That Big Bolt in the end of the Crank....??

That 15/16th bolt in the end of the crank.... is that thing holding the harmonic damper on? Couldn't quite work out if the snub nose bit it screws into was part of the damper or not. If it IS part of the damper, HTF do you get it undone witout just endlessly spinning the engine over? I admit to getting a bit curious & trying the air impact on it.....all it did was make noise without actually turning anything...
I already have the pulley off, in fact everything is off including the waterpump. Now what?
That's tomorrows project along with unbolting the tranny & engine mounts. Hoping to have the engine sat in the garage by beer frenzy time Friday night, or at least by Saturday night.

& yes, this is the first time I've attacked a V8 with wrenches..... I usually wrench on RR Merlins

Edit..
Oh, it's a 429 btw

Yep bolt comes out. Turn it counter clockwise. If you have the pan off you can put a socket extension into a hole in the crankshaft. If not, I pull a sparkplug and put a section of vacuum hose into the cylinder, (about 4" worth) and turn it over till the hose stops the engine from turning.

Thanks, I guess I'll leave it alone until the engine is on the stand

What I do with my cleveland is put 2 bolts in the holes that the pully attaches to and put a bar between them with opposite direction force and remove the bolt with a socket. No probs. I actually removed mine this morning due to the balancer rubber slipping.

Another trick - turn the engine to BDC on #1 cylinder on the down side of the compression stroke. Pull the plug, feed in a bunch of window sash cord. Crank the engine counterclockwise to compress the cord. You can now remove the bolt.
