All Canadians! "Kyoto accord" implications....

I for one am worried about the implications of the Kyoto accord. If this goes into effect, the Gov't will be looking for the easiest and cheapest way of reducing CO2 emissions 15% without distrupting mainstream society. Racers and hot rodders would be an easy target. We could end up in a situation where the Gov't would refuse to register vehicles that are more than 10 or 15 years old, or any pre-emission control cars. They could legally ban cruising, and make it illegal to modify engines, or ban two stroke engines such as snowmobiles and dirt bikes and even dissallow auto racing. We could end up under emissions restrictions in Canada that are far more severe than what is currently in place in southern California. It's something everyone in Canada should think about!

Remember to vote. It is strictly voter pressure that has stopped the socialist polititians in California from banning our pre smog control cars. Vote these pukes out of office! I have always thought it is "odd" that boats and airplanes are under no emissions control, Yet automobiles are an easy target. Vote them OUT!

As a Rig worker, I'm feeling the pinch right now. About 1/10th of the rigs that should be working right now are not because the oil companies are scared of the implications. This is not the official word, but rumor in the patch. This means roughly 5500-6000 rig workers are out of work for the short term. And don't forget the service companies that depend on the rigs operating. That's a lot of tax dollars not going into the coffers just from the salaries. All this while oil and gas are a at very high price.

All this scares the hell out of me. We have recently seen what the market has done with the tech stocks and the Kyoto Accord will give the energy sector a similar hit, I feel. They may have good intentions, and I'm all for a cleaner environment, but this agreement would be a step backwards for our entire system.

We are already building better vehicles with lower emissions and even more efficient ones are on the drawing board. Industry is working hard to lower their pollutants. Relatively speaking, North America, while still not perfect, has come a long way in the past 20 years. I just don't want to have to pay for overpolluters in other parts of the world.

just my 5 cents (2 cents $US)

Bush did the right thing by NOT signing up to the Kyoto accord. There is no definitive proof that the climate is warming...probably the same people who say that 2nd hand smoke will kill 30,000 people. Proof: the SOUTHERN pole ice cap is INCREASING! Gee...I thought the earth was warming! Proof: the amount of CO2 put into the atmosphere by man is sooooooooooooooooooo miniscule compared to other sources. The atmosphere is sooooooooooooooo vast that man has little affect!
