hedman headers

Does anyone know what I have to do to put a set of hedman headers on a stock 65 mustang 289 2bbl with power steering?

At the same time I want to switch to dual exhaust and will be putting on an autolite 4100 4 bbl with edelbrock intake.

I have the drop bracket for the power steering. Do I need to use different motor mounts?

Also, does anyone have a recommendation on a bolt on exhause system that would work with the headers? I'm not worried about making a GT setup (with exhaust through the rear). I would like to have a bolt on system if available to save the shop costs.

thx, dave 65 coupe 289

hedman headers

You do not need new motor mounts. The headers should just bolt on. Use good gaskets - like the FelPro metal sandwich gaskets. Most likely you will have to fit the headers in from below, so you'll need to raise the car up, maybe quite a bit. Some bolts may also need to be started first - that depends on the way they were built. A trick is to feed the header in, then "hang" it on the motor with a long 5/16" bolt through the front bolt hole. You can then move the header around and thread bolts without having to balance the thing too.

Flowmaster has a bolt on (all are sorta bolt on) dual setup for $320 though Summit. It uses 40 series muffs, which are kinda loud. There are some generic dual's kits for around $100 without mufflers.

hedman headers

I put a pair of those headman longtube's on my '66 stang. I had to drop some of my power steering, unbolt the mounts and lift the engine 2 inches just to slide the driver side in!!! The passenger side is a snap though. You will need a power steering ram lowering bracket. The tubes will hit it if you don't. You can get em at any mustang shop or even some Kregan's
